1969 F-250 Camper Special Step Side

Hello all, new to this website so please excuse my ignorance in advance. Purchased a 1969 F-250 Camper Special Step side, with a 390 in it, have not been able to locate another step side for this year on the net so far. Is this an unusual model or am I just a complete computer moron? Thanks in advance, can post some pictures if that would help, Carl

I didn't think that they offered any of the Camper Specials with a stepside, is it a longbed? I do know they offered the F250 CS as a cab and chassis, mine was that way originally by the body code, but had a correct longbed on it. The person might have bought a truck that was on the lot and had them put a bed on it. I do know mine was also pretty oddly equipped, with 3" drums all the way around, but manual master cylinder, manual steering, and a 300-6 with a C4 auto.

Jared, Thanks for the info, doubled checked the vin, and according to fordification.com it came as a conventional cab, and its a long wheel base code 131. I've been looking and can't seem to find another, hopefully someone will have some insight, again thanks for the information.

Welcome to FTE

AFAIK, Camper Specials were not available with an 8' Flareside bed (a stepside is a Chevrolet).

The VIN's Series Code (first 3 digits) does not decode to a Conventional Cab, to a Styleside or Flareside Pickup, nor to a Cab & Chassis.

In your case F25 = F250 2WD is all that it decodes to.

1953/72 F250's (except 1965/72 Camper Specials) were also available as Open Drive-Away's, have no cab...at all. Offered as a Chassis and Cowl, or Chassis and Windshield.

1973 was the first year that the Series Code decodes to a Cab & Chassis, Pickup (but doesn't define a Styleside or Flareside), 1974 and later for a Super Cab.

The Body code on the Warranty Plate decodes to a Cab and Chassis, Pickup (but again, doesn't define the type of bed), Open Drive-Away.

My guess is that you don't have a Camper Special (unless the Flareside bed was added later), but to be sure...the original build sheet for your truck is available from martiauto.com (for a fee).

1967/69 Camper Specials have script nameplates, 1970/72's have rectangular emblems. Most 1967/69 Camper Specials were Rangers, but Customs were also available.

There is no code within the VIN or on the Warranty Plate that decodes to a Camper Special, regardless of what year.series the truck is.

1967/72 F250 Camper Special's were available as a Cab and Chassis or as a long bed (131" wheelbase) Styleside pickup. These are essentially standard F250's with the Camper Special package added on.

1969 F250 Camper Special package included: Oil/Amp Gauges, H/D battery and alternator, front fender marker lamps, 300 I-6 or 360 2V, 4 speed manual or C6 Cruise-O-Matic, xtra coolng radiator, extended tailpipe, Stainless Dual Western Mirrors (w/3rd "Steady Rest" arm), camper wiring harness, 12" x 2 1/2" drum brakes front/rear.

1968/72 F250 2WD's (and F350's) were available with optional dual piston caliper front disc brakes. 1967/72 F100/350 Stylesides were available w/an optional factory installed 25 gallon auxillary fuel tank that fits inside the left frame rail.

While slide-in bed overhead campers were available for Flaresides, these were few and far between, ditto camper shells for Flaresides. Most of these types were designed for Stylesides.

Bill, thank you for the information. Is there a sure fire way to check if its a camper special or not? It does have the script badging you mentioned, and an extra leaf spring, however it has a wood bed.

The camper wiring harness was used for camper clearance lights (was placed inside the glovebox at final assembly). The taillamp harness has an extra feed wire for this wiring harness to plug into.

This is the only way to prove (without original paperwork) if the truck is a Camper Special...or not, since there are no codes on the Warranty Plate or within the VIN that decode to a Camper Special.

You can order a copy of your trucks original build sheet, a copy of your trucks original sticker (and etc) from martiauto.com. There is a fee for this service which is known in the hobby as a Marti Report.

Ford used to supply the build sheet for free (got the info from Marti), but I read just recently that program has been cancelled, replaced by another program (I think it's called FordGear.com). Ford is now charging for the build sheet.

The info come from Marti, because: In the late 1980's, FoMoCo was planning to THROW AWAY all the specs for 1967/79 FoMoCo vehicles.

Kevin Marti, a "Mustang nut" in Phoenix AZ found out about the FoMoCo's plan and got ALL OT IT!
