94 f150 inline 6 transmission problem

i have a 94 f150 4.9 inline 6 XL reg and i was exceleration from 40km to 60. i heard a bang/shudder underneath my seat. Now the only gear i have is reverse. Drive/1st/2nd doesnt move just revs up. Very little warning. felt slipping for couple mins while driving and trying to get it to gas station to check trany fluid. Fluid is fine. Had raddling for couple weeks thought it was ujoints. also i read that a warning sign for a trany is bad smelling exaust which i had noticed recently. Can someone give me an idea of what happend.

I take it you have a auto tranny and from the year I am guessing E40D. there are several things you could have going on with your tranny including needing a fluid and filter change. After tranny fluid gets old it gets gummy and doesn't let the valve body operate the way it should. You should pull codes from the computer to see what stored codes you might have.

Did you check your u joints?

Pull your codes becasue there is a sensor that can cause "no shift" problems on an E40D. If that sensor is bad your computer will tell you.

if not the sensor or fluid you'll have to pull the tranny and go to rebuild to find the problem.

I don't know how bad smelling exhaust would tell you anything other than you have a water or oil leak that is burning off in the piston cylinders during cumbustion. which is told by white or black smoke. The smell of the transmission fluid would tell you more if your tranny is burning itself up.

i never thought about the sensor im going to try that first. it sounds the most logical to me at this point. i had a used trany put in last year and new lines put on this winter so i dont know if the trany fluid would be the issue. not counting it out just yet but i have a feeling you could be right about the sensor. would the sensor explain any rattling? still could be ujoints i havnt checked that yet ive been busy so it could be a cluster of things ha. im going to look at it today.
