Think my truck is in limp mode...

Hey guys! Need a little knowledge before I call the dealer...

Last week the family and I took a vacation down to Florida from Southern Illinois. During the drive down when my 08 6.4L (all stock except for Banks intake) would go into Regeneration mode it seemed to "cut out" two or three times and loose power momentarily, but then it would clear up after, say five seconds. I was concerned, but it only did it on two of maybe three regens on the way down.

We came home yesterday and we didn't have any trouble except for blowing white smoke, caused by the stock intercooler that my dealer won't replace... (don't get me started on that!!!) and about 40 minutes from home, probably 30 minutes after we filled up, the truck went into regen again and this time I had no power. We went from 80mph to 45mph in no time trying to climb only a small incline! Now the truck won't go over 2500 rpm and 20psi is max. After stopping and looking over the truck I was able to get it home, but it basically has no power to go up hills at speed or pass anyone. Also the cruise doesn't work...I assume that's something to do with "limp mode". I never turned off the truck till I got home and havn't needed it today for anything, so I guess we'll see tomorrow.

I do have the latest update from Ford. Although there aren't any indicator lights on at all! Any thoughts???

classic signs of limp mode to me. I take it no wrench light though or you would have said so.

So what is the cause? Kind of sounds to me like an EGR issue.

I am florida right now. Did get to see the last launch?

Yes, inspect your fuel and fuel filters and be sure you have your receipt from that last fill up (one reason to always get a receipt). From the symptoms of short problems earlier in the trip, I would tend to suspect a failing sensor that was intermittent at first.

Yep had similar on a long trip. Filled up and then lost power etc and my truck is tuned. Ran about 1/2 the tank off and added a bunch of diesel fuel additive and it helped some. At 1/4 tank filled again and all was well. Also when I got the bad fuel mileage went to hell fast.

No, there was not a wrench light or anything like that... my only hope is that the computer stored a code so that it can be retrieved at the dealership. I can't stand the phrase "We didn't find anything wrong with it", when I know something wasn't right....

Did you have any indicators go off with this? I'm suspecting something to do with regen because of the small trouble signs I had on the way down...
Come to think of it, the last time I took the truck in it had the check engine light on and the code had something to do with the DPF, but the technician said it was nothing and that the new program they downloaded took care of it...that really didn't sit well with me! But I couldn't get anything else out of him.

Started truck up this morning paying attention to the turnovers. It seemed to take a couple more than usual before it hit, but after that it ran perfectly all the way to work. Which is a 40 minute drive.

Thanks for the info...I'll be calling the dealership this afternoon sometime.

Took my truck in on Monday the 18th and the dealer says it found a code for the DPF malfunction. I don't have the exact code number or anything, but the dealer and Ford didn't know exactly what caused the malfunction. They said it could be do to the fact that I have a Banks intake and have cut out the stock muffler...I don't really agree with that. They also said that if the truck continues to do this than I will have to return the truck back to stock condition. All the while I'm thinking I can't wait to get this thing programmed!!!
