Nylon fuel line repair

Nylon fuel line repair
The Nylon fuel lines on our trucks have been discontinued by ford. A repair kit is available, I bought mine from Rock Auto. I found it easier to remove the fuel lines off the truck, and do the work on the ground, but you could do the repair on the truck.
Prepare the lines for repair. clean them
Here's the kits, one 3/8", one 5/16"
Cut the line with a razor knife
Heat the line, I used a heat gun, but they suggested boiling water. Don't use a lot of heat, just enough to soften the line so the brass slips in
Brass inserted, to complete the repair, heat the other side, and push it on
I repaired supply, and return.
I really like the new ends, they "snap" on, and no longer require the plastic push in piece. To remove them, you just push in on the white button, and pull.

Follow-up to replacing nylon fuel lines
My 86 F-150 just developed a fuel line leak on my front/side mount tank and I am trying to figure out how to repair and your post is perfect.
1. Could you please provide more information on Rock Auto? is it an online or store in MD?
2. What are the two fuel lines going from the sending unit to the fuel pump? I noticed that one line is larger than the other. Where the lines attach to the sending unit one has a straight fitting and the other has a 90 elbow. The leak is the line with the straight fitting.
Thanks,
James

rock auto.com, a good site.
I also saw them at advance the other day in the help section.
Make sure the repair kit says Ford on it, chrysler and gm use a different fitting
The supply line is 3/8", and the return line is 5/16". If your ends arent't bad, just get the brass insert, and just make a straight repair
make sure all the gas is out of the line before you heat it
They make 90* fittings as well as straight ones. Just make sure which line you are working on, supply,3/8", and return,5/16"

FYI the fuel line repiar kits are made by Dorman Products most local auto parts stores can get them I know for sure NAPA carries them. Dorman makes a bunch of repair parts for all vehciles do a search for Dorman products and thye have a cataloge look up by make ,model year search then take Dorman part number to NAPA, Autozone or OReiles and thye can get it for you.

I finally got to the fuel line repair today. Everything went smoothly (thanks DustyBumpers) until I tried to connect the new quick connect for the supply line quick connect to the sending unit. The quick connect (5/16") on the repair kit I bought (Dorman 800-054) was too small !! I need a 3/8" quick connect and not the 5/16", which is supposed to be standard on my model.
I'm looking on the Dorman site and the rock auto site to fins a 3/8" quick connect withe a 3/8" line. Does anyone know the part number off hand?
