1960 Dash Lights
Hi... F-100, 1960...
Been finishing a restoration and at the night I noticed my dash lights and dome light do not work. Climbing around the truck, I notice all the connection appear to be in good shape. I opened the gauge cluster to look at the bulbs, changed the bulbs and still no lights.
I have yet to find a wiring diagram.
I found two wires, female ends coming out of the head light switch. I figured, "A ha!" but when I traced the two bulb lights they went right back from the bulbs down the wiring harness into the truck.
Any idea where these bulbs connect? The wiring harness back from the engine compartment is fine. The fuses on the headlight switch are fine. All those lights work great.
Stumped...

maybe look for a relay or something. not sure but you should have some kind of connection to your headlight switch. as for your dome light look at the switch on the door. that switch might just be bad or wires going to it might have got cut at one time or another. if the truck sat for a wile with the doors closed it might just be stuck in leaving the switch open.

There is a wiring diagram floating around, perhaps someone can provide the link. In the meantime, those trucks had a couple different configurations for the dome light but the dash illumination works off the rehostat in the headlight switch. Turn to the left to get brighter, turn all the way to the left until it clicks for the dome light. Those headlight switch rehostats are a failure point so yours may be burned out which will take out the dash illumination. As for the dome light. It could be the headlight switch, there may be a door switch, there is also a switch on the light itself which needs to be on. Hope that's enough to get you started in the right direction. BTW, don't bother looking for any relays; aside from the starter relay those old trucks don't have any. If you find one, it's something that someone has installed after the fact.
