1948 Railway Express F-5 Delivery Truck

Folks,
Just acquired this truck to restore for a railroad museum.
Very clean rust free truck. My major search will be for both left and right fenders for it.
Can someone please tell me which years the fenders are inter changable so I can begin a search?

Hey Steve, welcome to the forum. I'm up in Madras, Oregon. I think it's 48-50, but I am not certain on the pre '53 models. Hopefully someone will check in with you soon.

Gee, I'm dumb. Should of just checked my Ford book sitting right in front of me. According to it, 48-50 F-2 thru F-6 conventional cab trucks are the same.

Yes, 48-50, F 2-6 will interchange. You shouldn't have too much trouble finding a decent set. There's lots of old, broken farm trucks laying around that have really nice sheet metal. Especially in eastern Oregon and Washington. Welcome to the forum.
PS, I don't know where Chiloquin is? I'm guessing coast?

1948 Ford F-5 Railway Express Agency Delivery Truck

Folks,
Thanks for the responses.
Chiloquin is about 30 miles North of Klamath Falls on US 97.
We have a dry climate here and hopefully will find some fenders. Hopefully folks close to us will keep us in mind if you see a decent pair of fenders.
I am sure there will be more questions about source of parts needed to fix the truck as we tear into it.
The museum I am working with is Train Mountain in Chiloquin.

I'll be going on US97 from CA to WA in about a month. If I find any fenders around here, I'll let you know. By the way, what's wrong with the fenders on your truck?

Do you need both uppers and lowers, or just uppers, or just lowers? Anything else you need? I've collected a lot of parts through the years and now need to get rid of them.

I might be heading down that way in the not so distant future, I'll have to look you up when I go through Chiloquin, and stop by to see the train museum (I love trains too), and see the old truck. If I come across anything here, actually, I do know of a complete F-4/5/6 truck that is low on rust...hmmmm, will have to check on it.

1948 Ford f-5 Railway Express Truck

Folks,
Found the truck in Idaho. Bottom half of fenders gone along with inner fender. Also the top half on both sides are some what mangled.
Was told, could be a myth, that recaps loosing the tread may have torn them up. Don't know why they were removed for any other reason.
Truck will be here end of next week. Be glad to show it and the musuem.

We need pictures! Can you give a link? (trains too -- I've seen videos of an old steamer running up in OR, is that from the museum? YouTube - ‪SP 4449 4-15-07 crossing at Roberts, Oregon‬‏ )

Welcome to FTE, Steve!
I wish I could find me a railway express truck. I have too much stuff already, though.... well except maybe one more. Imagine trying to restore one of these big boys?

I don't need any more project either but if I stumbled across one of these I'd certainly have to get it. Steve,or anyone, have you ever seen anything like this:

I have known of railbus being built in the early 1900's. Did not realize Ford had made one so late. These were used on branch lines and on logging railroads to haul crews.
As for posting a picture of the REA Delivery truck. I am not good on a computor.
If someone would volunter to post a picture, let me know and I will e-mail you a picture to post.
