dealer wants $2200.00 to replace particulate filter

2008 f350 112,00 miles just had the truck in for a miss and the dealer says the particle filter is cracked and wants 2200.00 to replace it. Does this price sound about right for the job.

Seems a bit high, but I'm having a tough time finding a price for the part. If your truck was built after 12/08, the part has an MSRP of around $1,500. What are they quoting you for labor?

At this point in time with no warranty you may well be best off installing a delete pipe and tuning the truck. Most common setups can be had for less than $1,500 and you'd have a truck that would get better fuel economy, more power, and one less expensive component to break. Check out these guys:

On edit: Where in MN are you from? I work in Hudson, WI, which is only 20 miles from St. Paul.

Dealer cost on that part is $962.00 its also a super simply 40 min repair job. SO why the almost $1300.00 in markup?? The total repair should be around $1650.00 out the door.

Wow...we're about 40 miles from each other. I bought my '11 F350 from Tousley Ford. Which dealer is quoting the obscene amount for the DPF replacement?

Like Crazy said, since you are out of warranty you are better off spending $1200 or so and getting a DPF delete pipe and a tune. It is the best thing you will ever do to your truck.

I just PMed someone in MO who might be able to offer some more advice. Hopefully he'll chime in soon.

The DPF can be cleaned. Baked out or high pressure cleaning. Might want to check into that. Do the labor yourself. If it cracked then a must replace.

I'm not real sure about pricing (I dont see the bottom lines, I just do the work) But parts, labor, and diagnostic time might be close to that figure. And no, I'm not someone that just replaces DPFs solely because of sooty pipes.

I agree with this. Just reducing the fuel contamination is worth it. The increase in fuel mileage is a bonus. To change mine over, tuner, delete pipe, custom tune 1125.00

It helped me sleep at night. Then the bonus of slightly better mpg-but any is a bonus, right? The longer intervals between oil changes is welcomed.

It took me all less than a few weeks to decide when I bought my 2008.

Isn't emissions equipment warranted for 10-years regardless of mileage?

Out of warranty?

Is tuning even an issue then?

DPF-delete and tune, /thread...
