Tranny Questions???
Hello to all, I am new here as of today. I have already learned soo much!!
I have had a 1955 Ford F-100 since my freshman year in high school, 1989. It was my first vehicle. Me and my dad bought it for a thousand bucks and basiclly got her running and looking good, nothing major just the basic's to make it safe and legal. The VIN # indicates it was suppose to have the straight six, but it has a Y-block 292 and the V-8 emblem in the grill. It had 3 on the tree and I had to have a floor shifter to be "cool", so we used a HURST indy shifter and just kinda fabricated the linkage. I parked the truck in 1991. Last year i pulled it out of storage. Still runs decent, but I really want a automatic transmission now. I am going to have a total rebuild done on the 292.
I have read alot about the questions regarding putting a c-4 or AOD transmission behind a Y-block 292. Most of the threads appeared a little older and I havent been able to find anything real recent regarding the best solution. I have already called the guy in Salem Oregon, (FLAT-O) something like that, GREAT guy and soo helpful. Just not sure if I am ready to drop $600.00 for a "Kit". Just wondering what guys have been doing. I really want to keep the 292, but would like a more reliable tranny.
Thanks again for the great site and invaluabe information.
Darin.

Ford Y-Block Transmission Adapters
More of the same that you already found.
From what I find, the Flat O is probably what you're looking for....
AOD adaptor, just over halfway down the page here, $850....
