Yall got any tips on finding "cheap" airfare? I've flown some but never had to do the booking. Going from houston or dallas to chicago and back in september.

We have used Expedia.com in the past with pretty good success, but it has been a few years. There may be a better alternative nowadays.

Kayak.com searches all websites. Itn.com is amex's travel site and you can get discounts if you have an Amex card. Southwest only releases their fares on southwest.com. That's all I can think of

if you fly delta, check them directly as i have seen them have some of the best prices even over the "discount" sites.

Southwest.com is usually the cheapest but the only place you can find their fares on their website. Travel search engines don't show southwests fares

clear the cookies out of your computer between searches. the sires will see if you have checked before and some prices go up.

Hey Red, if you can swing it, try not to leave on a friday or return on a sunday, that will also make the fare go up pretty significantly
If you leave from Houston, you will stop in dallas to load up (southwest does this), and it will add about an hour to your flight time from flying direct from houston, however, it is still much less expensive
Also, if you drive to dallas to fly out of DFW or Love Field, it can get a little pricey to store your vehicle at a lot
