EGR Cooler Horizontal - Leak????
#17
I doubt it, as I believe the Maxxforce 7 has always used one EGR cooler from the beginning in 2007. The Super Duty pickups have to pass a completely different set of emissions tests than medium duty trucks that the Maxxforce engine would be in, and I believe this is why the different turbo and EGR system.
Acording to Navistar they used the 2 EGR cooler in 2007-2009 along with a single turbocharger, but in 2010 they went to a single EGR cooler and a dual sequential turbocharger.

I jumped into the delete option feet first. Elite Diesel EGR Delete Kit, Spartan Tuner and CAT/DPF delete pipe.
I spoke with a few Techs today and the opinion is, being I'm in a situation where I require EGR Cooler replacement, I might as well perform the delete now.
JD at Elite Diesel was very helpful and his owning a 6.4 simililary equipped helped me considerably with my decision.
Again, I hope this is a good decision. I'm a novice on diesel mechanics.

above is picture of 07 MaxxForce 7

page 14 of 50 in above link indicates a larger cooler for the MaxxForce 7; but an additional cooler for the MaxxForce DT

ITS A REVOLUTION
there is a slide show at the above link that you can view w/o downloading; using your scroll, slide 12 of 25 shows a single cooler.
Slide 1
Above is link that I had to view as HTML so don't know how link will work; but it indicates 2 coolers; (although, it isn't clear if MF7 or the MF DT)

I think the above link is interesting read on what was going on back when our engine was coming out; plus good info on DPF, etc. Like engine life with B20 vs. B50; but then recommended fuel is no greater than B5 on same slide
Not that it really makes any difference as to how many coolers it has, but, when Crazy said one cooler, I had also recalled same as I had been looking at the Navistar coolers a few weeks back just wondering if there was an alternative until I realized just how different the Ford Power Stroke versions are. Looks like the Navistar EGR cooler on the MF 7 went from right side in 07 to the left side on current model.
It looks like the newer Navistar use a floating EGR cooler on some models.

Spartan tuner upload, EGR Delete and DPF/CAT Delete are complete. Since owning this truck I have never seen over 12.5 AVG MPG on the lie-o-meter. I drove 120 miles after picking her up and my lie-o-meter is reading 19.2 AVG MPG sitting in my driveway. I cannot wait to calculate the actual mileage next fill-up.
My only complaint thus far is the power…just kidding. I am wondering why I’m getting a surging idle shortly after starting up in the morning. After about 5 minutes the engine begins to surge until I apply the break or throttle. Do you have any suggestions for this Spartan virgin?
Thanks again for the guidance and support.
My mechanic was suprised at the condition of my DPF with 124K miles. He said he's seen some bad DPF's and suggested I hang onto this one just in case.

Because it's cold outside and the system will slowly increase the idle trying to warm the engine up. It's a slow gradual increase, depending I guess on how cold ambient is and how long it's taking the engine to warm up. Under the right conditions mine seems to max out at around 1000 rpm.
