explorer V-6 engine problem

Hoping someone can help me out with my problem. My 1994 explorer losses power and dies when climbing a hill on the freeway. The check engine light has been coming on for a while when climbing a hill, or taxing the engine. last week I put new plugs and wires on, and changed the fuel filter, problem still exists. Yesterday I changed the fuel pump, it does not cut out as bad, but still has no power when climbing up hills on the freeway. Any ideas as to what is wrong?
Thanks for any help anyone can give me on this.

You need to have it scanned for codes. Most Autozones will do it for free. Have it scanned, write down any and all codes and post them here. They aren't always the best at giving the best repair advice for many codes.
