Piping ID choices, help wanted

This goes with another thread of mine and of last night I was sure I was going to use 2 1/4 pipping for my exhaust system. But today I am thinking future and sound.

I have a 5.8 auto 4x4. Im using summit shorty headers and the 5.8 stock down pipes and a dynomax flo x. I made a plate to adapt the stock head pipes to the deleted cat back.

My question is should I step up my plate from the 2.25 to 2.5 (weld in reducers ) and get the 2.5 muffler for the future when the stock head pipe rots. Then make that 2.5 also??? Or leave the system 2.25. This is "sort of" true duel. Head pipe does not merge into one and the flo x is a x-pipe muffler 2 in/ 2 out... Again im thinking future of the head pipe/tone of system/ performance.

Thanks for your time as always men !

I cut this all with a torch, bolt holes included. Cleaned up the pipe holes with the die grinder. Still need to chase the bolt holes with a drill and clean up the slag with a grinder. Few pics of the plate to give you a idea of what trying to do here....

Up on down pipe ..

Old junk pipe for the photo/test fit

I run 2 1/4 duals on my big block, so performance wise I would say you would be fine with 2 1/4 on your small block

Any disadvantage to making it 2.5 for a deeper exhaust note? Too little back pressure or would I be fine with either size?

Yea I just unbolted the cat and made that plate to bolt up all the new stuff to the head pipe... I really wanted the bassini stainless 3 " Y pipe but could not see 300 bucks for it w/o cat and the cat version is the same price and I don't want their cat. lose /lose... So this is where it is for now. Just hope that head pipe makes it past plow season into next year when Im willing to wrench on it w/o snow dripping in my face/all over the garage.
