Automatic tranny questions/alternatives

It seems that ford automatic transmissions are pretty inefficient and power robbers. I think that may be the reason that fords get worse fuel mileage than gm's. My 94 f150 4x4 currently has an E4OD which seems to be a decent tranny for what I do all though I know others will disagree. I was wondering if anyone has swapped out their ford tranny for a gm tranny (gasp! Oh no!) and if any gm tranny's are more efficient/stronger. I want to stay with an automatic, I don't have any problems with manuals I am just tired of changing clutches. Sometimes it's just nice to push the gas and go.

Im not sure which direction to point you. I've seen people try to blasphemize a Ford by putting a 350 in one not just the gm trans.

To be helpful, no I've never seen it. Most def everythig would have to be fabricated to fit. Even then you'd have to engine computers. The gm 700r4 is a decent auto hat doesn't require a computer, but its not OD and is limited is gears.

Your best bet in my opinion is to just rebuild your e4od and leave it at that. There are plenty of upgrades available for it. Check out the NLOC website nationallightningownersclub.com I believe.

Gen 1 Lightnings - The National Lightning Owners Club Inc

This website along with FTE's search function should help you find all the upgrade options you can think of. I personally was thinking of the Punisher valve body.

Alright, I will have to check them out. I forgot about the computer stuff. It just seems to me that the ford auto's rob alot of power from the motor. The 5.8 seems to have plenty of omph. I am planning on doing a full exhaust with long tube headers at some point in the future so that ought to help too.

Exhaust and a decent RV cam swap will really wake the 5.8 up. Also take a look into doing the 6.0 Liter tune up.

Where would one find the 6 liter tuneup? I have heard of it on here before but never looked into it.

Here is this explanation found on a search
