Good morning Indiana and all of our IN friends!
and a big HOWDY to WAG...welcome brother...long time no see!
haha...isn't there a sayin' about a pot and a kettle?...hmmm...
Anyway...we're in the Santa Cruz area. Drove up from SoCal yesterday...about 400 miles and an absolutely beautiful drive.
We took the 405 up to the 101 and then headed north/west. The 101 is a beautiful road and took that to San Luis Opisbo (sp?) where we hooked up with the 1 (Pacific Coast Highway - PCH)...what an amazing drive right along the coast!...very winding road and some of the most beautiful scenary I can remember!...although tooling along on that kind of road is not for making time (which we weren't looking for)...so it took most of the day to make the trip to where we are and we're glad we did. It was about a 10 hour day yesterday.
We made a few stops along the way with one of them at an elephant seal viewing area...man are they BIG...there was probably 40-50 of them just laying around on the beach...it was funny to watch them move around...they would "inch walk" their bodies...maybe 3-5 times and then they would just go completely LIMP like they are completely exhausted from the act of moving...funny to watch them...but very cool to watch them.
Speaking of cool...man is it much cooler up here than down in SoCal area...it was in the low 60's to upper 50's as we drove north...and there was a cool breeze too...too bad we can't take that to Vegas with us as it will be well over 100 degrees there!
There was also a show on Death Valley on TV last night...we'll be passing thru there too after Yosemite and on the way to Vegas...man that is going to be HOT...in the salt flats area the highest temperature EVER recorded in North America was recorded there...134 degrees I believe...we're not planning on the salt flats (I don't think) as I only plan on passing thru if you will...hopefully the caddy's cooling system is up to the task!...one neat thing in this car is it has "cooled" seats and not just "heated" seats...interesting feature...
We also got to meet a fellow FTE'r along the way...Stewart_H lives here in the central coast area so I made arrangements as we got closer to select a place to meet and chat. We spent about 45 minutes or so chatting and it was nice to finally meet him as we've chatted on FTE for years now...always nice to put a face to the screen-name.
After meeting Stewart we had about 45 minutes more of driving to get to the hotel for the night.
Hope everyone is well at home.
I'll check in when I can.
Joe.
