I did mine on a 54 panel for about a $100 ,25 for a used box,25 for a pump and bracket to fit a 351 w,then a arm from mid fiffty to go from the box to the original pitman arm. It has worked great for 14,000 miles. I also made my own mounting bracket for the box,but if I do anotherone I would buy the bracket.

I did it on my 53. Pump was 25, gear box 50 and the kit from Mid50 I think was around 100. I am still having issues with mine. I am getting chattering and vibration when turning. Acts like there is air but I have jacked the truck up and turn the wheel serveral times from stop to stop.

You'll need to make a decision of either tilt or non-tilt column, then column shift or floor shift. If you go column shift tilt/non-tilt (auto) you are more or less at the mercy of the aftermarket as their design allows for proper placement of the shift arm on the steering column. I decided tilt column shift and managed to pick up a 30" Chrome Tilt Flaming River unit from 'rodpartsdealer' on eBay for $250 shippied to the door. This column uses a Doubble D shaft. All this was after I tried shortening a '71 GM Van tilt and ran into issues trying to find the proper bearings/bushings to relocate the shift lever at the end of the column. Shortening wasn't the problem, re-positioning the shift arm was. I was trying to move it to the end of the main tube, like the aftermarket units are. You need to do this to clear the floorboard of these trucks with the shift arm on the column and the Toyota box input shaft is very close to the floorboard. Just about only enough room for the universal joint itself.

Parts list-
Toyota steering conversion kit (Mid-Fifty)..........$285
Used Toyota P/S box (off eBay).......................$50
Lokar shift linkage kit (local parts house)...........$65
Column Drop (swap meet)...............................$30
Drag link rebuild kit (MACs Auto Parts)...............$25
P/S pump and brackets (my stash off '71 F100)..FREEBIE

Still need to get a steering wheel and adapter, custom build hoses to p/s pump, and opposite ends of the column wiring harness.

Here's a few pics:

Here's the tilt column...came in the mail yesterday.

If I remeber right, it's out of an '84 toyota 4x4. I believe you can use '79-'87 units but the '79-84 are preferred. Not sure what the differences were.

Here's a helpful article here on the site:

I have the Mid Fifty kit I need to get rid of if you are interested in. I also have a PS Pump that was off a late model 5.0 that was going to be used for this conversion. Just PM me if interested.

I guess I'm just to new to understand what you mean. Please explain. If you are calling my truck and yours a "monkey face" then I have to say I think mine is more like an aligator face

You guys are awesome Thanks for the help and info. Seems alot more cost effective to go the toyota route than the Rack and Pinion.

Bonus Builts refer to 48-52 most of the time... Narrower frames then the 53+

"Monkey Face" = 48-50
1st pic (mine)

"Bucktooth", "Bad Teeth", or "Manure Spreader" = 51-52
2nd Pic (don't remembers who's this is)
