Best five speed opinions

I have a 2wd 94 F150 with a 302 and a c-6tranny. I'm not a fan of automatics (never had one last) and I want to swap it for a five speed. Had a friend of mine give me a SF s542 but it came out from behind a 460 and the bell house is not removable. That made me sodepressed. Thought I had a good free five speed.

the C6 3 speed tranny is not a option for the 94's unless someone put a older tranny in your truck... you sure it's a C6??????????

C6's are damn near indestructable and cheap to rebuild but they cost more in MPGs due to being a 3 spd auto instead of the AODE, AOD, E40D, 4R70W 4spd OD transmissions.

The ZF-S542 is the best sock 5spd you can get for these trucks. They came standard in the F250 HD and F350 trucks! They are the bomb diggity of 5spds!

Welcome to FTE and as always I do point out the red heart in upper left is for reputation points... Learn to use it sooner rather than later...

It wasn't the factory tranny the Guy who had it before me thought it would be a good idea to throw it in park while he was going about 30 MPH. So it was replaced with a c6. Wichita isn't a bad tranny I just don't like automatics.

hey I'm with you bro! I hate autos unless they...

A.) aren't computer controled
B.) have proven reliability (C6 in production since 60's and commonly used by drag racers)
C.) Won't kill gas milage (which a 3spd c6 would...)

ZF's are your best bet!

The ZF is the best tranny put in these trucks. Mine puts up with all my abuse without complaining. Its a little noisier then id like and using 75-90w has helped, but it still rattles in the heat of the summer. Sorry to hear the tranny is not a match, the Big Block bolt pattern is defiantly a problem. But i may be able to help you out. I have a Small Block 2wd ZF5 in my garage i need to sell. It came out of a 91 F250 and i was going to rebuild it as a 4x4 tranny. But i found a 4x4 zf before i tore it down. So it has been sitting in my garage for about a year now. Shoot me a PM if your interested.
