Fail to see how, sence Gen 3 owners wouldn't launch and fly there gen 3's in the air like the raptors, unless they turned them into a prerunner.

 

The area where the paint is chipped, is where the frame buckled.

 

But I can see the area of it buckling without someone pointing out that the paint is chipping...

the guy in the second video that bottomed out should be on his knees thanking god or whoever he believes in that he didnt die! that hit could have easily caused that truck to flip up and on its roof killing him, hes crying about a tweaked frame id be f%cking exstatic that the truck didnt flip on me! this guys are f%cking idiots plain and simply, taking a stock truck with softer leafs doing 80mph hitting a two foot kicker! YOUS ARE STUPID

 

I have closely looked at the frames on these trucks especially in this area and can tell you its really very thin. It might be thinner then it should be for how these trucks were marketed. I'm not saying these guys were smarts by running these trucks that hard or that they shouldn't shoulder the burden but FORD didn't make that frame like they should of for that truck. I crawled under I saw and I have to think this could have been designed better.

 

If the frame did not bend, something else would have.

 

We have a new F-150 Lariat in the shop with the bed off of it.
In comparing the pictures of the bent frames to what I saw on that 150 there is NO DIFFERENCE between them.
The Raptor frame appears to be the same as the F-150 Lariat in that section over the bump stops.

 

Just thought I add this. AutoBlog interviewed the SVT "boss" as they put it:

Theres nothing extreme about that run that shoild bend anything?

 

Frames were probably imported from CHINA

 

They (ford) spent all kinds of money on R&D on the front and rear suspensions but as several members (myself included) have stated that the frames are the same as a standard F150. That to me shows they dropped the ball. Why go to all the trouble to market and develop the suspensions as a capable desert runner but stop short of not upgrading the frame as well? Why keep it standard? I have my theories. (Cough, COST!) But I am no engineer nor pretend to be one. I can just honestly say that if you inspect both frames the are identical. Now not to say the drivers didnt screw up. But Ford didn't build that frame to live up to that suspension.

 

As a previous poster said regarding flipping the truck over; it got my thinking what if the frame didn't give? In the blog with the SVT engineer he states the truck would have donkey kicked and sent the rear of the truck way up.

I would much rather have a bent frame then be dead.

 

I would also be interested to see if the ones that didnt bend are the ones that had the original spring packs in the rear and unmodified suspension.

Oh My Darling Clementine, those are the breaks of the game. Pun intended. You BROKE a $42,000 truck to traverse that? My God, what are they teaching you at that prep school? Compared to some of the roads where I'm at, that's a danged Interstate highway. And I drive those in a Gran Torino. A car. Not a truck. No lift kit. No Rancho upgrades to the steering or suspension. No knobby tires on polished carbon gray wheels with contrasting color bead lockers and lug nuts. Hell, I don't even put HUBCAPS on it half the time.
