'93 F250 dead radio

Hello folks.....the radio on my '93 F250 (diesel) is dead. The fuses are all good. I've plugged in a donor radio and it too does not come on. I've checked the +12 volt supply to the radio and found that the +12 IGN. supply is missing at the grey plug. Does anyone know where this supply comes from. Does it go through a relay when the engine is running or the key is in the Accesory position ? Thanks to all for any ideas about why radios die and how to revive them.

Just run a new wire from your fuse box. Test to see what fuses are IGN/acc fuses or find the origional acc fuse to the radio and run a solid wire off the box. Also did you test to make sure your acc radio fuse has power??? If it does just put a new jumper wire in and put a inline fuse in the new wire and run it up to the radio. Pretty easy... From what I have seen a mouse chewing the wire inside the dash is the most common problem when loosing power wires like this. I try to make it an easy fix and just bypass the origional wire with a new one; it works every time and you won't have hrs of trying to figure out your problem.

btw: there shouldn't be a relay in between your fuse box and the radio... there isn't a fuse or relay to change except at the fuse box. If you get power at the box and none at the radio your wire is broken inside the dash wiring harness somewhere.

Welcome to FTE!

The Yellow/Black wire (B+) comes from Fuse 11 that is hot when the key is in the Accessory or Run position on pin 3 of that radio connector. Pin 1 has a Light Green/Yellow (A+) wire that is hot at all times which is fed by Fuse 8.

does the tape player work? (if its factory that is) i had the same thing happen and i didnt know there was a fuse under the hood for the radio. i seriously didnt have a radio for 3 years because i thought there was only 1 fuse, and i put 3 different radios in it, so i figured it was the trucks wiring. lol

There is a radio fuse in the engine compartment fuse box, it is Fuse 8 on a 1993. The other fuses for the radio are in the under dash fuse panel. I listed which ones to check in my earlier post. I will add Fuse 4 supplies power for the radio display.

Here is the circuit diagram:

like I said... check for power at the acc fuse inside the cab. If there is power there and not at the radio you have a break in your wire. At which point you can run a new wire out of the acc fuse spot to the radio and put an inline fuse in!

I stand corrected! I was looking at a different year EVTM when looking up the use info. On a 1993 the always hot fuse is Fuse 8 in the Engine Compartment Power Distribution panel. The Hot lead with the Key in On?run is Fuse 11 in the under dash fuse panel.
