I also paid 18 bucks on that JustAnswer.com to see if I could get my hands on the wiring diagrams, this was to no avail.

Ford OEM parts typically will come from distribution facilities regardless of where they are manufactured. Parts can be shipped for manufacturers when there are parts shortages and assembly priorities.

part numbers

[quote=C0DEW1Z;10721615]I bought the RVD/Compass mirror and backup cam from nailsandsales on ebay. She didnt have the product listed for sale on ebay so I emailed her and asked. Sure enough she invoiced me on paypal and shipped the products.

Could you tell me the part numbers for the mirror and camera?

I too have a 2011 ford xlt and would like to add a back up camera.

Thanks

I think I understood CODEW1Z say the connector(s) are at the rear of the truck near the spare tire just off to the drive side a bit. The wire harness for the camera will come with the camera I'm sure.

Re: Part numbers

RVD/Compass mirror Part number is BU5A 17E678 CD, The Taillight assembly is BL3Z-13A409-B. I unfortunately do not have the camera part number because I already installed it on my truck. The camera will come with a short harness that will plug into a camera connector that will come on the Taillight harness if your truck doesn't already have the correct one. The taillight harness will plug into the body harness just behind the spare tire off to the drive side a bit, it is at this junction that I am having the problem. My new taillight harness has 5 extra wires to support the cam and the body harness that this plugs into does not. I would be interested to find out if your truck has the correct wires since Tasca Ford in RI says there is only one body harness option. If I had the wiring diagram for a 2011 which uses a different color wire than the 2010 I would probably just run the camera wires along the existing body harness and just find some pins to install into the stock harness connectors that way it would be close to stock other than the wires would run on the outside of the assembly. I would also like to note that if you buy the camera from nailsandsales you will need to purchase the mounting hardware for the camera (Two Bolts and the blocks they screw into) , I also went ahead and ordered a spare emblem at the advice of others. I however did not have any issues removing the emblem from the camera.

My trailer wires are from a different bundle on my body harness, they are not part of the taillight harness either.

I had bought a 2010 camera...however the seller sent me a 2011 camera. So I also have the 6 wires that you are talking about Codew1z

give me a little time and I'll get you the proper schematics for them. The pinouts changed locations. it's easy to fix by moving the pins around. that way you can avoid cutting/hacking any of the harness. just a little time with a tiny screwdriver and you're set.

I'm having to custom wire the entire thing, so I'm getting pretty familiar with this setup

Go to rearviewsafety.com, and you can pick up a unit there for about $225 that is a cinch to install. Easy and the instructions take you through the entire process.

I signed up for motorcraftservice.com and I now have all the Connector diagrams and locations for the entire camera system. Since Tasca Ford said there was only one harness for my truck I will wait to see if this one has all the correct wires. This is my theory and it sorta makes sense to me. If Tasca Ford is correct and there is only one wiring harness for my truck then I would have to believe that Ford leaves these wires out during production to save money. However when you buy an OEM replacement your paying for the cost of the additional wires in the harness so no skin out of Ford's pocket, plus it would make it easier to find the correct harness for OEM replacement. Time will tell when the harness comes in.

There is an issue with which year model truck you have vs. which year of camera...and which rear mirror you have.

The 2008-2010 model style camera and mirror have a different wiring harness from the 2011 versions.

It's extremely easy to fix by moving pins in the harness connectors. The trick is figuring out which version you have.

I'm fighting the system right now. The mirror I bought works when I plug it into my Expy, but no matter what I do, it refuses to work in the truck.

Could you post up the camera and wire diagrams for a 2011 F-150? I have the diagrams for any 2004-2009 Ford. But the 2011 stuff is eluding me and I can't find a DVD repair manual for a good price on them yet.
