I have been considering putting a set of PaceSetter 70-2221's on my 351W, and am trying to decide on the rest of the exhaust. I was thinking true dual with a pair of these MagnaFlow Catalytic Converters - 49-STATE & CANADA Catalytic Converters For Trucks, Suv's, American Muscle, Diesel, & Sport Compact Vehicles
Magnaflow 3 way cats. I'm looking for general feedback, especially with regards to CT emissions testing. It,s a '93 F-250 Super Cab, manual, 4x4 with the long bed.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Visually, as long as everything is still there, such as your cats, egr, that will be ok. Im not sure if they do the sniffer test for these older vehicles or if they go by the computer, I know anything 96 and newer is computer, I'm sure someone else will be able to tell you for sure.

 

Not to hijack the thread but here is another question to go along with the same subject.

Isn't there a law that has something to do with OEM manufacturing or making available replacement parts for up to 10 years after a vehicle if manufactured? If so, how can anyone be held accountable for an obsolete part like an unavailable egr or air pump or a complete fuel injection system wire harness, sensors, injectors, cpu etc???

My answer is, most of these places don't know what they are looking at anyway.

Thanks for the replies, CT does sniffers out to 25 yrs old (for now). Now, should i go with those cats or get AIR tube ones? I'm not sure if it really needs it with the modern catalyst coatings, but it would be great to know if people pass w/o the injection.

 

my 85 bronco, and cousins 85 blazer passed with the non air cats. that was under the previous testing company, back in 1999-2004 era.

I had a similar question, some of my air pump lines are gone and they don't make replacement parts for them on my 91. (They run from the pump over the top of the engine) Sounds like they don't really care. Hell my diesel had to be tested and meet a 20% opacity limit, it got 2.9%. Laughable. I didn't see if they checked for anything on the exhaust and the shouldn't as it has nothing.

 

the opacity test is a bit misleading. i think all non egr diesels have a 20% limit, and most will pass with under 5%. it seems like you are doing really good, but the truth is that when something goes bad such as an injector dumping fuel or cracked rings...you will be pushing 30%+ in a heartbeat.

as for the air injection lines, if they arent hanging in view of someone inspecting the cats, then you wont have an issue. also, the inlet to the cat should be capped if the lines are not hooked up.
