No spark, unplugged computer and spark returned

Does this mean for sure I need a new computer? I had no spark or fuel pressure. I read on another post to unplug the computer and see if the spark returned, which it did, so I wanted to know if changing the computer will take care of the fuel issue also? any help would be appreciated. Thanks

One of the symptoms of a bad computer is the fuel pump running all the time. I would check the PCM and Fuel pump relays first. You also could have a bad connection or ground. Try pulling codes.

Yes more than likely a new computer will being the fuel pressure and spark back.
You also need to check and make sure the power pins on the computer have power and the ground pins read zero to ground.
If no ground check the small black wire with a green stripe coming off the NEG post of the battery and make sure it is well grounded there.

How do I identify the pos. pins from the neg. pins? If that checks out I can just buy a new computer and both spark and fuel will be fixed? Thanks in advance

The power pins are 1, 37 & 57 and the ground pins are 40 & 60.

The plug below is for a 1990 so I post it for the pin locations only.
The two wiring diagrams are for the 1988 F-series.

Thanks alot! I will check those points tommorow. If the pos. and negs. are correct to get the truck working will be to get a new computer right? If they don't check out, then fix the wiring issue so they do check out, then the computer is probably fine and it was the wiring all along. Did I understand the big picture correctly? I am capable in simple engine work, but I get lost easily when it come to wiring. thanks again

You got it right. But you need the key on to check the power on 37 & 57. Pin #1 should have power on it at all times.

Sounds like your EEC Power Relay is not closing when you turn on the key or its fuse link is open.

Also check and make sure the small black wire with a green stripe has a good connection at the NEG post of the battery.
It will not run without this wire grounded.
