1996 5.8 Timing chain - Roller chain or old style?
I just bought a 1996 F250 with 5.8 engine with 180,000 miles on it. Did these engines use the old style timing chain or did they change to the roller chain like the 5.0s did? Thanks.
Sorry, don't know the design of the stock chain used in that engine. But at 180000 miles, you probably want to change the timing set anyway, and I would get a roller set for the better durability. It won't cost much more than the stock link-belt design.

96 will have roller timing chain and roller camshaft.
for sure run the double roller chain but i wouldnt worry about changing it just yet. because its a roller chain already and the roller cam unless you have excessive wear to the crank and such you should be good till its time for a rebuild.
