Someone who knows more about it than I do is bound to chime in, but if you're going to RP for extended intervals, you are probably wasting your time. Just going off of what I've read, so no first hand experience, going much over 5000 miles on a change is considered risky no matter which oil you choose.
Do you monitor oil temps at all? Do you know what temp difference there is with the
5w-40 and 0w-40? I don't think that oil is meant to be used in that kinda weather. Who makes it?
John Deere has a 0w-40 oil. They say excellent performance from -40 to 122. Would probably work well outside of those ranges also.
Wow! Wolfs Head? Sounds like they have gone upscale! Back in the mid 80's that was the cheapest stuff available in the convenience store next to where I worked. My ride at the time was using two quarts a day and I bought a lot! That stuff came out of the bottle looking and smelling like it had been drained out of a big rig. Thanks for the memory! Glad they are still around and making a better product.

I dont think its gotten much better, at least the hydraulic oil. As soon as you put it into a piece of equipment the spools stick and you cant even run it. I wouldnt put anything with that name in my truck if it was free
WOW, you guys are giving me a complex, LOL. I'm gonna have to try something different just to see if I notice anything. I am interested in trying a 5w-40...

Back in the mid 60's I had a 1959 chevy impala that burned 1-2 quarts a week and I would buy Wolfs head in gallon cans for about $1 Never needed to change the oil in that car because it the oil was replaced. I seem to remember that oil had a green tint to it.
Well, if you're at 140,000+ with no issues it's gotta be a decent product. What I'm talking about you would not put in your truck just by looking at it. At the time a quart of oil was somthing like $1.40 and a quart of this stuff was mebbe $.79. Pretty sure it was recycled and straight 30 weight. Cool bottles in the floor of my truck though! Ha-ha.

A gallon can? The kind of can you open with a key? Dang I remember cans but not in a gallon size.
