a little help would be awesome

Ok Im new to fords all my buddys have fords and are telling me to switch over so I . Switched over from chevy. I am buying a f150 xlt, 302 fuel injected 2wd , I took it for a test drive, I noticed a clunking like a clunk clunk ( two of them) everytime the truck would upshift or downshift into the other gear under normal driving, , The guy im buying it from said the u joints were on there way out. Easy fix. But would that cause a clunking noise It sounds like right at the transmission, You can hear it while you drive. I dont want to buy a truck wtha bad transmision!! Would bad u joints cause this?? Any help would be appreciated. I didnt notice any lag in the hard downshift, It was instant power, Any ideas.

If it is an "easy fix" ask the seller to replace the u-joints before you agree to purchase the truck. Drivetrain noises can be an indication of some very expensive repairs. Whether it's a Chevy or a Ford use some common sense before purchasing any used vehicle.

^^What he said is the best answer. But you could always crawl under it and give the driveline a few twists and shakes to see if there is any play in the u-joints.

yea crawl all over the truck and check it out, if your not sure and know a good friend who works on cars or is a mechanic bring them along and have them check it over thoroughly for any issues remember use common sense when buying any vehicle

Do as the others suggest and check it out closely or have someone more knowledgable do it but I can tell you that mine did exactly what you describe and it was caused by bad U-joints.
