Door Locks, 2011 F350 Lariat Crew
Not sure if this is by design or not so hoping someone here can shed some light. When I'm exiting my truck and try to lock the doors using the door lock on the inside of the door, the doors lock and then within a second they unlock. I realize I can use the key to lock them or the keypad on the outside, but I'm in the habit of exiting a vehicle and hitting the door lock on the door to lock them. It seems the only time this door lock works and keeps the locks locked is when the door is closed. This doesn't do me much good for when I'm leaving the vehicle though! Is this "feature" by design or is there something wrong with my locks?

There should be a description in the Owner's Manual. On my truck, notably a much earlier 2004 model, it will do that if the keys are in the ignition. It may be different on later models. Or it may be that there is a problem with the switch that detects the key in the ignition.
Read up on it in the Owner's Manual. It will tell you what it's supposed to do and you can go from there.

The truck will not allow you to lock it with the keys in the ignition. It keeps you from locking your keys in the car. Which means you won't call roadside assistants as much (they hope) and saves them money. That is why they unlock right after, if the key is not in the ignition there is a problem.

I use the lock switch on the driver's door to lock up all the time. But I'm usually out of the truck with my keys in my purse before I hit it and then shut it.
But I have noticed that my steering wheel doesn't lock in place when I turn the truck off and remove the key, no matter what. It can still turn and the wheels move when the key is out of the ignition. Isn't that odd?

thanks, everyone, it's at the shop right now and they can't figure it out. FYI, this is occuring when the keys are OUT of the ignition. The mechanic working on it said it's acting like the key is still in the ignition. That to me means a sensor or something is wrong. At least this isn't by design!
