rebodied 72 f-250 with a 68 f100
Hello. i have a 72 f-250 4x4 with a 390 engine and 4 speed transmission. I am in the process of putting a cab and front clip from a 68 f-100 4x4 on it. My question, how much different was the 2 frames? the 68 inner fenders are at least 2 inches about the frame. The rear cab mounts i found also to be different. The f-100 seemed to had been narrower at the back of the cab, by about 3 inches roughly. i'm wondering can i just drillin a new hole to bolt the cab down.
THe steering column the 72 fell apart. Could i use the one from the 68 f-100?
thank you for your time

I put a 71 F100 body onto a 72 Hi Boy, same idea. I had to shim up the front clip (only because of the 4WD frame, I think). The rear cab mounts I had to drill, but the area is stamped for where you need to drill it. Once you pull the fuel tank out it is pretty obvious. Get the cab posistioned then drill from the bottom up, using the hole in the frame for a guide. As far as steering columns go, remove them both and compare. I know they used a bunch of different lengths through the years, but it will probably work with a little effort.

projectdagger,
Found this on the Fordification web site:
Chassis Comparison - '67-'72 vs. '73-'79 - FORDification.com
Short frame comparison, but about half-way down, they talk about doing a body swap.
Hope this helps,
Joseph
