Cool '88 F-150 wont crank HELP!

<hr style="color: rgb(209, 209, 225); background-color: rgb(209, 209, 225);" size="1"> <!-- / icon and title --> <!-- message --> pulled the motor from my '88 f-150 recently and had it built by a very reliable mechanic..dropped it back in yesterday and got everything hooked up today..went to crank it..turned it over and hit a couple times but wouldnt crank..i dont think its getting fuel, can you get the two fuel lines backwards? any suggestions would be great.. thanks!

There's an in and an out for the fuel rail, but it's far more likely that you either left something disconnected, mis-connected, or your base timing is off.

If everything else checks out, loosen the distributor hold-down bolt and move it back and forth while cranking. It should catch somewhere and then you can set the timing with the light. This is, of course, assuming that the engine is at TDC and the rotor is pointing roughly at the #1 post on the distributor cap.

If you do have the fuel lines backwards, you will just have way too much pressure at the injectors because the regulator is not able to do its job. I believe the routing should go: fuel pump, injectors, fuel pressure regulator, return line, but I am not 100% sure. Hopefully someone that knows for sure (subford?) will post.

hey thanks for your advice.. we are going to try a gas rag to the intake tmrw to see if its a fuel problem..will let you know the outcome
