fuel economy

Hey I'm looking to get a F250 or F350 diesel. What kind of fuel economy would I be looking at with a Extend cab, 6 speed, 4x4, longbed, with a 7.3 in it? I'm guessing 18 to 19 in town and 22 to 23 on highway. Thank you for yalls answers.

Your estimates are probably 3-5 MPG above realism. Generally a 7.3L with a manual will deliver the best MPG of any Super Duty power train combination, but 22-23 MPG is asking a lot for that heavy of a truck. It is possible, but not common.

I get 20mpg with a crew cab long bed 4x4 7.3 with a auto. a extended cab weighs less so I'm guessing 1mpg better. Then 1.5 to 2 mpg better with a 6 speed over a auto. I got over 700 highway miles on tank of fuel. I think it was like 19.8 mpg to be exact.

I have the exact truck, mine is an 02. I have had a mpg drop lately that im trying to figure out why? But i normally get about 18-18.5 with a mix of highway and a bit of around town driving. I get about 15 with only around town driving. I can squeak out 20-20.5 in perfect conditions, empty truck on very long freeway trip at 65mph. And yes when all is perfect i can get over 700 miles on a tank. Joe

Will anyone that has a 7.3 manual, extended cab, longbed, 4x4 tell me what mpg they get?
Joe the mpg in the 2000 crew cab gets 18 mpg pulling a trailer out to Colorado. Joe have you been adding lucus to your fuel? if you have been adding lucus to your fuel you may want to stop, because I have been told it gums up your injectors causing lower mpg. I just stopped on the 700 miles tank. On that tank it was city and highway. I went to Tenn picked up a forewheeler, and drove back to NC.

No i have never used lucas before.
Now again i have an 02 f250 7.3 4x4 6 speed long bed.

My mpg normally is 18-18.5 with a mix of highway and around town.

My mpg is about 15 around town.

My mpg is 20-20.5 on a long freeway trip with empty truck at 65mph.

Lately mine has dropped. Working on correcting some things like leaky intercooler boots, fuel filter change, different fuel etc to see if it goes back to normal. I have not driven enought lately to tell. Thanks Joe

with clean air filter, clean oil, additive (diesel kleen or similar) ex cab long bed 4x4 6-speed the best I have ever gotten with DP on 80 economy is 19-20 all freeway. I get considerably less around town lately, and not quite sure why. I do have 305/70/16's on it though so a little bit more meat than the stock size tires. Ive found that the best way for getting mileage with my particular truck is to keep the RPM's under 2000, but also to pay attention to EGT's and Boost. It does you no good to be under 2000 RPM but have to put the pedal down and be dumping fuel creating high EGT's trying to pull up a hill. Use the 6-speed and shift and use neutral as much as possible

02 f350 super cab 4x4 automatic with no engine mods except super chips. I get 11 to 18mpg with my city driving and 18+ with highway.

If I get over 11mpg, I'm happy.

I get 16-18 around town and going to work, 19-20 on the highway running empty, 13-14.5 with the camper on.
