1992 F150 351 windsor engine questions

So I just bought a 92 F150 for 600 bucks with 150,000 miles on it. The engine light is on and the engine feels pretty weak. Throttle cable is good so thats not the problem. Is the diagnostic system hurting the performance? Is there a way to get the computer to ignore the codes? I dont feel like replacing a bunch of electrical crap. Thanks in advance,

Ben

PULL THE CODES First....They're there for a reason....Not being a *****....But like I said they have a reason....

Second....Do a good tuneup...Maybe even the 6litre tuneup....

Search the forum for KOEO/KOER tests.....Its free that way...just count the flashes....

Ford Fuel Injection » How To Run a Self-Test here is a link on how to get any trouble codes as suggested. Or you can buy an Equus 3145 code reader for under $30.00 to make life easier.
However don`t discount a restricted exhaust as a problem.
But always worth getting the trouble codes.

Ok ya i guess ill go pull the codes. what is the 6 litre tune up you talk about? I know its not exauhst restrictions because there arent any cats or mufflers haha. i suppose that would set of the o2 sensor though. thanks for the input,

Ben

EDIT: Did a search and found what the 6 litre tuneup was... i will definately take into consideration. thing is i already have new wires/ ditributer cap/ coil in there haha

im gunna seafoam it tommorow but that probably wont make much of a difference. when i say slow, im flooring it and the top speed is 75 mph. 0-60 in probably 15-20 seconds haha. also i noticed today that the tranny has a hard time getting any power whatsoever to wheels from 0-2 mph. torque converter? it has 33s but those shouldn't slow it down that much...

also one thing i forgot to add... 8mpg hightway!!!!

Yeah, pull the codes, its either that or throwing gas down the drain and likely hurting gumming up various engine components eventually. Could be a MAP sensor, spark plugs, wires, rotors, bag ground, MAF sensor, plugged Catalytic converter, the list goes on. Pull the codes, you will be glad you did. Post the results on here. Do yourself a favor and dont try to remember the check engine light flashes. Have a pen and paper handy and write down the codes 3 times to make sure you wrote them down right. I personally have a 5.8 windsor and its pretty danged weak in top running condition. 215 hp and like 300lb of torque. Pretty pathetic to modern standards, especially in bad running condition with 150k on the odometer.
