F-150 ecoboost 3:73 vs 4:10 rear diff
So I'm real close to placing my order for a new ecoboost. I just keep flip flopping back and forth as to whether which rear diff I should go with.
The only reason that I want the 4:10 is because I love torque. I must confess that at this time I have nothing to haul around so towing is irrelevant. The dealer here doesn't have an eco with a 4:10 gear ratio so I can only speculate as to how much added get-up-and-go it will give me.
I have been reading that the 4:10 with the eco is overkill but how so? More is always better right? Has anyone driven an eco with a 4:10 rear end? I'm especially interested in how much added torque the 4:10 adds AND how many mpg's are forfeited. I would love to hear everyone's thoughts on this subjuct.
I drove the 3:55 and wasnt impressed. The 3:73 was slightly impressive (especially impressive when you consider that its a 3.5L v6), and I'm hoping I will be overly impressed with the 4:10.
So essentially added torque?
Lost mileage?
Thanks.

I went back and forth over this decision and ultimately went with the 3.73.
I'm glad I did.
It almost seems like the 3.73 is still a little short because the turbo barely has any time to spool up in 1st gear without a load. I can only imagine what the 4.10 would be like.
I put the transmission in manual 2nd gear. Held the brake to build a little boost. And laid rubber down on the road when I let off the brake and pressed the accelerator to the floor. Burning rubber from a dead stop. In 2nd gear. With 3.73s.
With that said, I would go with the 4.10 axle if you plan of leveling and adding a slightly taller tire.
Let us know what you end up doing.

I think the 35"s will make the biggest loss of MPG"s. Turning all the extra weight. If your interested in MPG"s don't get the bigger rubber. If you level and go 1 or 2 sizes up you would be fine with 373"s if your going to tow heavy or get 35"s get the 410's and don't worry about the couple of lost MPG"s!
