if u take your time to aquire parts you can swap a d44 straight axle relatively cheap and easy. coil sprung ttbs dont like much lift.. about the highest you can go is 9in and it will be about as tall as a f350 w/ 4in of lift.
if your mall crawlin after the 4bt swap you might could run a d44, but more than likely be replacing a lot of 8.8s
youd be fine but probly wont be happy with a d50 4bt combo.. obs f250 powerstrokes (v8 diesel) came factory with d50s. and im prety sure 4bts way a lot less than 7.3 powerstrokes. so the weight is not an issue with d50s but might be with a d44

the 4bt does weigh a good bit less than the 7.3 . . . but the 7.3's beat the **** outta the d50's on the street. they wouldnt last very long at all if someone decided to take their 7.3 beastin a bit. the d60 is the only thing worth the time to swap. im a huge fan of the d50 ttb, but youll inevitably beat the **** out of a d50 and itll be more work than its worth.
