What Trans?

Were there two 5 speed transmissions available in my 91 F-150 5.0L 4x4? What was the VIN code for them? Thanks.

In 1991 there was 2 different 5 speed trannys, but one was for F150's only, witch is the M5OD Mazda transmission.

The other would be the ZF5 S-42 heavy duty witch is found only in F250HD's and up.

No idea for the door code.

Ok, I knew I saw somewhere that there were 2 transmissions available that year, but didn't know the specifics. I thought one was a Mazda trans. Do you know if there are any common problems with the Mazda trans? Mine has 142K on it and works great. Thanks for the input.

The 3 shift tower rubber plugs love to leak, and only leak as you drive, the tranny runs dry, and eats the bearings and causes all the problems known to those transmissions.

Heres what i'm talking about. Really easy to access, just unbolt your floor hump, and there right there.

Thanks. I do have a slight leak at the trans and thought I remembered seeing somewhere that there were some plugs that leaked. Do you know if you can still get these plugs from Ford yet? Thanks again.
