Trans to t-case adapter

Anyone know if the adapter that goes between the trans and t-case is the same for a E4OD and a ZF5?

And are they the same between the older BW 1356 t-case and the newer one?

They are transmission specific. Each trans uses a different one, and they are part of the transmission case.

I was wondering because the one on the ZF5 from my '87 F350 bolts onto the trans so I could easily remove it.
I'm buying a 4x4 E4OD trans and t-case but that adapter piece is broken/cracked. So what can I do to replace that piece?

You cannot swap tailshafts between e4od's and zf5's, They are transmission specific.

Thats what he was asking.

The T-cases are the same, but the tail shaft on the trans has to be right.

I have a 97 (bad) >auto donor truck with 4x4. I want to put the running gear in a 97 standard truck. Does this mean the T-case won't work.

the t-case's are the same, its the tailshafts that are different between the zf and e40d. the tail shafts are different if you want to interchange them between transmissions, but that has nothing to do with the t-case. so if you get a 4wd trans, it will bolt up.

Thanks for your input. I can work on the engine, not to much on the tranny's. This 97 makes five trucks now. The wife says one more and i'm out of here. Just can't say no to a deal.

I know BTS uses a steel tailshaft housing on his builds, I wonder if he would sell just that the tailhousing and how much it would cost?

I can check on it for you if you would like.

It is a simple bolt on piece if you can find another one....

The steel (cast iron I believe) that BTS uses is a stock tail housing from a 4R100. The E4OD uses an aluminum one but the SD's with the 4R uses a cast iron one

Thanks for the clarification Tim! I learn something all the time I would assume that the steel one is better?

Besides the OP's question, I am also interested in this, cause my dad just bought a 97 auto, and I am going to be improving the trans, it will at least get a VB, not sure what else at this point.
