I take it the last part was a shot at me since I stated many times the stock LS performs poorly.
Nope, not meant as a shot at all. My point was that the really black oil that someone had, when it isn't very old, probably has a lot of burnt clutch material contamination.

X2, not a shot at you. Someone said their oil was black.
There should be one socket head cap screw (shcs) that holds on the front cover and the rest are standard hex head bolts. (They are standard, not metric. Either 5/16-18 or 3/8-16 I forget which) The socket head cap screws have a round head but takes an allen wrench to tighten and loosen them. Only one is needed because the pumpkin comes close to another component and doesn't allow room for a standard bolt. Don't be surprised if the bolt gives you hard time coming out. I replaced the bolt with a stainless SHCS so its easier the next time around.
I had to buy a socket for that one. Anyway, I am just waiting now for the RTV to setup so that I can refill with oil. Is just 1 hour enough, or would I benefit from waiting longer?
I just refilled the fluid and the front took all 3 quarts, but the rear only took 3 quarts as well. The fourth quart would not go in. The fluid was running out with just the three. How do I get the fourth one in?

You don't. Hopefully the truck is sitting level. The correct fluid level is even with the bottom of the plug hole. You can try giving it a few minutes to run down the axle tubes, and then see if it will take any more.
It took about a pint less than expected, so maybe you didn't quite get all the old out. Did you work at getting it out of the sump in the bottom of the casting?
Not that it matters, unless the old oil was really bad. Capacity does vary a little. Just take that extra bottle back for a refund if it won't go.

The rear isn't 4 quarts it's either 3.25 or 3.75 can't remember which. It hard to fill because of how the fill plug is. If you have a flexible funnel you can use that, otherwise just add as much as you can until it drips out and you'll be good. Also, you can drive for about 15 mins, then you should be able to add a little more as the fluid gets moved around.
I drove it. I don't know what has been mentioned as "chatter", but I don't think I have it. I didn't hear anything strange, granted, however, it is hard to hear with traffic, wind noise and the 7.3 clacky diesel. I punched it from a stop and it scratched the tires a bit, once on one side, then on the other side, so the LSD is working. I couldn't get more fluid in, so I guess everything is full. No leaks.
I bought a tube about the size of an iphone (but a skinnier) and ended up using half of it and threw the rest out (i accidentally punctured the tube so it had to go).
Do you realize the irony of the fact that you could have possibly repaired the puncture with the tubes own contents??
