Oil pan gasket

Looks like I need a new oil pan gasket -94 F150, 4.9L 6, 186,000 miles- the one in there now is squeezing out from between the pan and the block. It feels like it's 1/8 inch thick foam rubber. Is that standard? What's up with it squeezing out? Was the foam gasket someone's attempt to fix a re-occuring problem? (I've only owned the truck for a few months - love it so far). Thanks for any info.

Oil pan gasket

Check out the thread on the InLine 6 forum (https://www.ford-trucks.com/dcforum/DCForumID9/643.html).

I suspect the gasket is oozing out because it was overtightened. Good luck getting it fixed.

Oil pan gasket

Hi:

I don't know if this is too late but I just did an oil pan and gasket on my 91 F150 4.9. I got a (Felpro) all rubber gasket from AutoZone. It is an all day job but this gasket made it all the easier. I don't know about its reliability yet but all seems to be going well.

My vote is also for the Felpro 1 piece oil pan silicone/ rubber gasket.

OS34601R $21.99 from Autozone.

You install it dry, no messy sealers and it's one piece. It comes
with 4 plastic studs to hold the gasket up while you install the pan.

Oil pan gasket

I agree with everyone, Use the Felpro gasket. I have done them at work and that is the gasket to use, no questions asked.

Oil pan gasket

Ok, guys I am a guy who has not worked on any newer cars , my last car i worked on was a 1965 mustang, so anyway, how hard is it to change the 1996 F150 oil pan gasket on my truck ? I hear that it cost a show about $300 to $500 to change this ?

Any tips would be great ?

HOw long should it take ?
Do i have to pull the engine ?

THanks,

Jared

Oil pan gasket

I changed mine about a month ago. I loosened the motor mount bolts and jacked the engine up and dropped the pan down - I couldn't get it all of the way out. I changed the oil pump at the same time. I worked the gasket around the pan and because I didn't discover the plastis studs until after I was finished I used zip ties to hold the pan/gasket/pan rails in place to the block. It was definitely an all day affair. I recomend getting someone to give you a hand that pan gasket is slippery and hard to hold in place.
