Door Handle

Well... getting out of the truck this morning to get some gas and when i pulled on the door handle it snapped off at the base (inside the door panel). Not really a huge deal, but an inconvenience at best. I was able to open the door from the outside, but have a big trip planned and it seems like everything is going to crap real quick (Murphy's law I imagine ). Anyone have an extra near So Cal or know how easy/hard the swap would be? I assume it is not that difficult, but the easiest things can sometimes be a pain.
Thanks,

If you have a napa store near by they sell the metal ones like those used for the 80s style ford trucks. A lil priceyer but worth only having to change it once.

Metal handles are around 20 bucks. It's a real easy install. Just make sure not to over tighten the screws when you put the door panel back on. I'm really getting tired of the crappy quality of Ford interiors.

Go to a junkyard. I picked up a set for my truck last week. 20 bucks for both. Any 150-250 1980 thru 1986 will fit perfect they are chrome and look great in truck. Better than the cheap plastic POS parts I got from autozone.

Have the same problem mine keep breaking. Upon investigation I found out my mechanism that the door handle was wore. I replaced it put a new handle on and it snapped first time opening it. Further investigation lead me to my cable being stretched. So my advice is replace the whole pos and buy a metal on and never worry with it again.

I can't tell if you're serious right now with this. Have you ever driven a Dodge or GMC/Chevy truck? I used to daily drive a Dakota and I daily drive a GMC Sierra right now. The interiors are far worse on those.

Every OBS Ford I've ever owned (4) was falling apart on the inside. Never had that problem with a chevy. You must not use your Ford much.

I will second this one. I have driven my fair share of GM and Dodges as well and the Ford interiors in my opinion seem to hold up as well or better than the others. I mean seriously my truck has 388,000 miles on it and the seats are still comfortable, they have no tears, and everything still works. The fit and finish isn't great on any of them, but it's a truck, not a Lexus.

Thats just my personal experience. I'll tell you this though. I'll put up with all the broken interior parts because I have a lifelong love affair with the OBS Ford. She may have her flaws but she's still my baby.

There are reasons ford trucks have been best selling forever, and it isn't because they fall apart. If you don't like your obs, sell it and leave the forum, and buy a chebby.

edit: I see you posted again right ahead of me. I didn't mean to sound too much like an a$$, just don't like ford bashing on a ford site..
