351 FLYWHEEL QUESTIONS

What kind of balance should an 84 351 windsor flywheel have? i've searched on this alot but no definate answer. I have a flywheel that came with it but it looks identical to the flywheel i took of my 82 300. will they interchange?

The 351W is externally balanced. There should be a counterweight cast into the flywheel just inside of the ring gear on the side facing the engine.

The 300 is internally balanced and has no counterweight. The flywheels are not interchangeable.

The 351/5.8 has always been 28oz external balance while the 300 has always had perfect primary balance(0 external balance).

The flywheel that came off the motor doesn't even have a weight on it. It does have some balancing holes drilled in it and the casting number for both flywheels is from the 60's. Could these holes be taking place of the weight?

Also the only harmonic balancer I can find for an 84 351 are the 50oz.

No, the 351 will have a block (weight) welded on it, the 300 has no block.

If it is a factory flywheel, it is not welded on, it is cast in as part of the flywheel. I was looking for a decent picture online, but could not find one that was linkable to the forum. Go to ebay and search for item # 170391910528 and look at the picture.
