flathead transmission

What transmission did you guys use behind your flathead ? Making it more road worthy. With less rpm.

Thanks for the quick reply ! It looks like you have a 55-56 ford with maybe a 292 or 312, they are cool. a friend of mine has a 56. But any way, looking at mine, makes you think of a old farm truck, Its been rebuild frame up completely. Its a 1932 BB,which is a 11/2 ton, flatbed. With a flathead and a granny gear trans. Its a nice truck, and it goes for a big truck. I just thought, but putting a little later standard overdrive trans in it. It might help the engines life running 50-60 going down the road. By maybe turning a little less RPM. It does not see the highway much, mostly driven around town and on old country roads. Its the kind of truck you feel like driving with a straw hat on. And a load of hay on the flatbed. With the old hound hanging out the window.A 69 year old truck needs all the help and pampering it can get. I know Im almost that old,and I know I could use some pampering now. Thanks !

yes ..enjoy the truck,,,, and slow down to where the truck is happy...and it will rub off on you ,,you will find yourself stopping to watch kids play ,,look at things you drove past for years..and never saw...I think that is why I like my old Ford...
