<HR style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #d1d1e1; COLOR: #d1d1e1" SIZE=1 itxtNodeId="615"> <!-- / icon and title --><!-- message -->
The trans locks up when put in drive stoping the motor can be shifted up and down in manual. how to control or fix? It would be like trying to drive a standard (stick) shift without ever pushing in on the clutch. reverse works fine does not lock up then in reverse or 1 gear. thanks for any help

KOEO self test and maybe CM should give you a good starting point locate the problem, post any codes you get.

Sounds like the TC Clutch wire is shorted to ground or a bad solenoid pack or a bad computer.
I do not think you will see any codes with this one unless it is the solenoid pack.

Talking running now kinda

Well after finding the right color wire to cut; it unlocked the torque converter. The correct color is purple with yellow stripe. I can now put the truck into drive without it stalling . It seams to shift out fine.

But, how do I fix the real problem, where the torque converter locks up like it should and unlock correctly? Thanks for all the great help and support.!!!!!!

You either have to find where the wire is grounded (between the place you cut it and the computer or if the wiring is OK replace the computer.

Question Ground ??

I'm Asking if it was grounded it wouldn't be hot continuously? Unless it was grounder to a hot wire some where before I cut it. Which is what was making it stay locked in..........So, it must be the computer? If I don't find two wires melted together.

If it is the computer it's behind the glove box?

The purple with yellow stripe wire could be shorted to any grounded part of the truck and that would keep the clutch on.
If the purple with yellow stripe had power on it the clutch would not be locked.
You have to ground the purple with yellow stripe wire to lock the clutch.
That is what the computer does, it grounds it to lockup the TC.

Yea exactly the problem, its not constant as in locked all the time as it would be if the wire where simply grounded out.
Reason I suggested checking the computer for any codes it might offer. Might tell you something might not but only takes a couple of minutes to check as a starting point.

Shorting with another solenoid perhaps, S3 is suggested. Also check the solenoid packs bulkhead connector. Disconnect the harness from it, see if its full of trans fluid for example.

real deal

The truck key switch was in the off position. When I skinned the wire back and tested it it was hot. I'm not sure the key might have been on not sure but it was hot so I cut it I guess turning off the tc then I could start it up and put in drive without it stalling.
