1977 Marquis 460

I have a 460 that I pulled from a 1977 Grand Marquis. On the back of the motor I noticed there are plugs screwed into each head. The plugs are also brazed shut on the ends with brass. This looks like a homemade custom thing. Does anyone know what this could be for or what was there before the plugs?
Thanks,

Those are plugging the smog pump injection ports. What they did was do away with the smog system on those heads. In some ways helping you to increase power but if your emission laws are stick you may end up having to unplug them to set up the emissions junk again.
