Unexplained Misfire on 97 F150
Hey Guys! I'm new to the forum.
Got an odd one. At least it is to me anyway. Someone else here may know what it is.
My truck has developed a misfire on cylinders 1 and 5. The OBD2 scanner at autozone says code P0300, Po301 and P0305.
I bought a new set of plugs and wires. Problem still there. I then replaced the both coils. Problem is still there.
Is there a control module or something that could kill those 2 cylinders like on the older trucks with distributors?
Thanks

I don't know what you did but here is some info you may need.
Looking from the front, the left coil front terminals fire cylinder 1 on left 5, on right.
Did you wire them correctly?
What codes came back after you cleared the original codes?
If wire, boots and plugs have no issue, the only thing left is the coil plug, harness and PCM for specific cylinder miss.
Reference Haynes book page 1-3 for ignition fire order and coil layout.
Good luck.

Hello. Thanks for your response Bluegrass..
Yes, It is wired correctly.
The way it is wired on the coils is like this (looking at engine)
6 3 [ ] 7 2
1 5 [ ] 4 8
I had the codes cleared and within moments, the check engine light was back on with the same codes. But, now I also have a code P0351.

Ok.. Update.. Wires and plug look really good. Replaced the coils again. Cleared codes. within a couple minutes, the light was on again. Same codes. I made a road trip. Went on a 50 mile round trip. Took it to autozone to scan again. This time around, I now have codes P0300, P0301, P0304, P0305 and P0351. Replaced the coil again on the side with the #4 cylinder. Made no difference.
Got another new code. This one, 304, being on the other side.
What is the possibility that some faulty fuel injectors could be it? I heard once a long time ago that some cars will not fire if there is no fuel.

any updates on this post? I have the same codes with my 97 Ranger 3.0. When coming home the other day I was stuck in traffic and it starting running rough. The check engine light came on and I pulled off the road. I got a P0300 on my scan tool. I drove it home anyway and when I got it home, the P0300 cleared but now I have a P0351, P0301, and P0305. It is now in the garage and I'm afraid to drive it since I blew a head gasket on my first motor with the same codes. My coil pack shorts between 1 and 5 and all 4 pins of the connector are shorted together. That's all I checked so far. Any advise?
