1984 ranger dash

i have a 84 ranger which im putting up on 40's or bigger but have a question about interior. i am wanting to make a new dash (out of diamond plate) and was wondering if i would use like an old ford speedometer or the whole dash? do i need anything extra to make it work with my new set up?

thanks
justin

Mostly this depends on the transmission you are using. Does the transmission supply an electronic or a mechanical signal. Mechanical signal involves a cable and gear at the transmission with a cable going into the speedo. Electronic is harder, but still possible to do. Mechanical is easier to do because you can compensate for axle ratio and tire size by swapping a plastic gear between the cable and the transmission. Does this help?
