homemade valvecovers

ok well i been thinking of making valvecovers for the diesel
so the options
aluminum-i will need to get these welded up and everything
steel-i can weld them but need a bottom flange made with the bolt holes
fiberglass-fairly weak and expands differently than metal
carbon fiber-strong and durable not as costly as i thought but i hear its got the same heat issues as fiberglass

if i go glass or carbon ill use epoxy instead of resin so would expansion be an issue i got some glass laying around and wouldnt mind using it up but i dont wanna waste it if its not worth it
also im going to throw in a filler to five a much larger flange (thicker) so warping is not an issue

wats youre thoughts?

Forget about fiberglass or carbon fiber. That's just asking for trouble. Neither work well with heat.
The safest route would be steel

well i got a guy who can cut the flange and he could cut me some script for the top ill problly sell them if anyone is interested
in thinking an ih logo would be sweet on it
maybe have a few others stock too

but im sick of leaking valve covers you cannot apply even pressure with a stamped valvecover they bend distort and dent too easily

Find some high temp clear plastic and make a set. That would add some WOW factor.

I seen them years ago at a car show, no links that I know of. I do recall it was made of high temp plastic and was vacuum formed by using a valve cover as a mold when I asked the guy about them.

How about you just get a good used set or new set and torque them properly

possibly an option but over time they get beat up with all the stuff goin in and out of the truck i stand on them and all when working on it
also i can straighten them and even with new ones torqued properly you can still have leaks
and stamped steel sucks i hate the idea of stamped valvecovers they look cheap and stock
