FAILED EMISSIONS BY 5%
Well I took my truck in to get an emissions today and it failed by 5%, It is smoking to much. So first thing I did was replace my air filter and put some PS diesel additive. What else can I do to make it pass i have to have my truck so i got to figure this out. thanks

well It is not chipped, yet. but its hardly smoking even when i really step into it, the person who did the e-test drove it twice as hard as i ever have but i guess they have to. Its never failed emission before and i have owned the truck for years and i have not done anything to it besides the fuel pump since my last emissions so i just don't get it. My air filter was pretty dirty so i just bought a new one (i have a cold air), Maybe the air filter was that 5%???

There's lots of 7.3 guys near you. Are you a member of the local powerstroke club? From what I understand, it's really hard to fail the opacity test on stock tuning, and even several chips. Maybe you got a bad tester. I'd find someone local who doesn't mind taking a look at it and offering suggestions.
It's hard to see the amount of smoke across the internet, but if you're saying it doesn't smoke much, then it sounds like you should have passed.

Do your get another chance to test without another fee? If so I would just take it to another testing facility, sense you already have replaced your air filter and put some PS diesel additive in. Drive it a little on the freeway and get it good and warmed up, I think with another tester and what you have done it should pass. Does your state give you an exemption after spending X amount of dollars for repairs? If so save all of your receipts. Good Luck

There are several members here that are members, and many more who are not. One of them is running North of 1,000 hp on his 7.3.
