If you want a real test take a hammer and hit the fender on the Cheby, and then hit the Ford.... the Ford will dent, as will the Dodge.... Okay fixable... the Cheby will shatter... yes Shatter I had one and it had PVC fenders to lighten it up..... Normal factory install.. I dropped a bail of hay on the bed side.. and it shattered... Very expensive fix! NUFF SAID! Front fenders too!

no kidding. the guy next door has one, and a chunk of snow rolled into the passenger rear wquarter anc cracked the bottom off.
$1500 for the bed side skin, and we had to paint it.
three days later, the passenger side got hit in a parking lot.
it cost him $3500 for two bed side skins and paint, and if they were made out of metal i could have popped the dents out with the suction cup puller.

This, however, is going to require some proof.[/quote]
I see where your commin from, This information was told to me by a certified ford mechanic that took a class giving , by Ford, on the 6.7. Supposedly depending on how much power you want Ford can program the computer and give you up to 700 hp.
If you want 350 hp for engine longevity or 700 hp for major power Ford is clamming it can do it with a push or a few buttons.

The ironic part of this is that 5 -7 years ago 700 ft/lbs of tq out of a diesel from the FACTORY would have been unheard of. Now we are trying to justify if a 3/4 ton to 1 ton can tow 21K pounds? Really, who cares......
But I will go with the marketing theory.......yadaayadaaa, Chevy/GMC/2 years ago that shouldn't have existed from a company standpoint...makes more hp and can tow alot.......
good for them. When you can tow 21k and get +30 mpg out of whatever manufacturer....then I'm impressed.

The max power an engine can make period and the max power an engine can make while still meeting emmision requirements is another thing completely. Then there is the question of how much work said engine can handle at X power without the EGTs going through the roof and needing to defuel the engine. When towing, an engine that makes 350hp/700tq all the time can be better than an engine that makes 700hp/1100tq going downhill only. The 5.9l, 6.6l, 6.4l and etc can make 700hp too but its not good for much other than racing around for short periods of time.

From what I understand Ford's Diesels get their power from the power stroke, So somehow that have designed a computer that allows the injectors to fire more or less on the power stroke to give you more or less power while still meeting emissions. And from what I understand 700 hp no more, up hill or down, and still be a daily driver. How exactly they do it I have no idea, only ford does.
