How to tell the difference betweeb stock altenator and 3G?

My altenator died on my 93 f150 5.0, so I was going to do the 3G upgrade. I think the truck may already have a 3G, as it looks similar to photos I have seen online. How can I tell the difference? Also will a pulley from a stock altenator fit on a 3G altenator?

Thanks!

Jeff

The old 2G pulley will work on a 3G.

did you have it bench tested? I'm not going to lie you can rebuild your alternator with quality parts for less than 1/3 the cost of a cheap chineese/mexico rebuild...

The only thing that really wears out is the VR assembly the bearings are pretty long lasting

Also there is two types of 3g alternators a large case and a small case. The small case has 4 holes in the cros ribs and the large case only has two holes like the above picture.

small case on the left large on the right http://www.supermotors.net/getfile/6...e/115_1530.jpg

There are 2 hole (large 148mm 130A) and 4 hole (small 135mm 95A)

There are 3 mounting styles. (side mount, 7" & 8 1/4" spread)

Quality bearings, rectifiers and regulators can also be found on Ryan's site. RJM Injection Tech — Alternator Accessories

What the heck?! my Bronco is a 92 and i think it came with a 3G (i previously thought it had a 2G, but mine doesn't have an external fan and resembles a 3G a lot, it also came factory installed), that would be great news! . Does that means i should upgrade the cable?.

Factory installed 3G's shouldn't need a cable upgrade unless you are upgrading the 3G to one with much more amperage.
95->160A would definitely qualify

The major issue is that the 2G harness can't begin to take the current that a 130A alternator can put out, nor is it fused. If the regulator went in the 3G it could melt the 2G trucks wiring harness.
