Don't try this at Home! & In Heavy Trouble; Questions for Flatbed Owners
So I finally got to removing the 14' manure Spreader from the 51 F5 COE 158" wheelbase truck last week.
It was a little precarious with 2 of us using high lift jacks on either side and lifting at the same time to get it raised hi enough to clear the rear tires and clear his trailer which was about 39" high.
We used chains around the frame and the manure spreader to keep it from going to far if it was to topple
Once on the blocks it felt a bit more stable but I was a bit nervous the entire thing was going to topple
I could breate again once we had his trailer under it though....
Anyway I picked up this flatbed thinking I could use it on this truck, but I think the dang thing weighs at least 2 tons maybe more?? ( I think it was on a dually tandom truck) it's 20' long 94" wide and is heavy C channel construction with looks darn near 1/4" plate decking.
I only have about 9 feet from back of cab to the end of frame rails. (what is acceptable hangover on a flatbed?) I figured I could shorten the flatbed at least a few feet and 45 the front corners but not ready for that project. and would still be worried about the weight of it being to much? plus if I shorten it too much then I lose more valuable deck space,
( I was thinking I could store parts trucks on the flatbed initially once installed, I know- I NEED Help)
Probably need a longer wheelbase to begin with? maybe a newer chassis ?? maybe I should sell the truck and focus on one of my other projects....
I'm probably going to just sell the flatbed as I think I jumped the gun a bit on it plus it's sitting on my trailer until I get someone to help me unload it... What was I thinking!!!

Lol. Ya manure spreaders tturn me on!
I still have a nice scar on the top of my head from standing under one of the flinger tines... Ouch!
It came off pretty easy but felt a bit wobbly on the jacks, took about an hour or so with stacking the blocks etc.
I sold the manure spreader for 700 which I was very happy about, a rancher can give another lease on life and I didn't have to scrap it which would probably only given me 400 +- ?
I paid roughly scrap + on the flatbed so ? Probably should build one custom sized for the truck though - less weight?

It looks like the flatbed was made to be a tilt-bed? Isn't that what those two pins at the rear are for? That is major HD, possibly due to tilting? If you measure the major steel members I can calculate its weight for you.
I hate cinder blocks, especially a stack that tall! Glad it worked out without any death or destruction.

Ya it looks like it was a dump bed of some sort. Thanks I would love some weight est. Ill measure the thickness of everyrhing tonight when I get home. The two main rails are 2"x6" structural (or C channel) that run the length and the cross supports are 4"x1&5/8" C channel every 16" on center. I'll pm you more info soon as I get it , thanks. I would be suprised if it weighs anything less than 5k

Approx 112' of cross support rails makes 8812 lbs.
And main rails 420 lbs. For a total of 2760 + lbs. Sure felt heavier on my trailer. Thanks Ross.

ya thats a 43 Ford GPW parts jeep for my 45 ford gpw. so far it has donated the F script pintle hitch, probably the carburator and maybe the front springs soon. I almost hate to totally part it out but maybe good to have parts for mine since they get expensive to buy individually when you need them. plus the body on this one is pretty rusty,
heres my 45 gpw
Hey Those are some nice axles! I could use them under this flatbed
what car is that?
I hear ya on the script stakebeds, I'm not sure what my 12 footer one ways for the F-6 but I could manhandle it around and carry it if I balanced it right by standing in the middle of it, I had to have help setting it back on the truck after sandblasting and paint though.
BTW whats all that green stuff in the background??? I thought you guys were still waiting for spring? must be the global warming. lol
The tall grassy yard is my overflow truck yard a couple miles from my house. I wish I had a bit more truck space at my house. oh well it's probably good that I don't or I would be in even more trouble!
heres my 45 gpw
My Ford script flatbed had 1/4" plate welded on top of the wood deck. I ground the welds, and removed the plate, and the flatbed was still more than 300 pounds or so. (9 footer) I can pick up one end to flip it over, but that's it.
Last weekend I did a bit of dangling myself, lol.
