I only have 1 thing to add about the where tires are made conversation. I too was concerned with this when buying my last tires, bought good years for my dodge. But I emailed Pirelli and BFG and Good year. The consensus was that they are all Global tire manufacturers and generally make certain tires in certain plants and then ship the tire around the world. Where the tires are made depends on market. Most BFG A/Ts are sold in North America so they are made here or most pirelli Neros are sold in south america so they are made in Brazil etc etc. I picked good year because they were just the best deal and I have had nothing but good luck from good year. Only had 1 set of BFG and they were decent too and will be considered when its time for my next tires and fellas might want to look at Nitto Terra Grappler A/T.

I have heard the best owner reviews (from people I know, mostly farmers & ranchers) for Firestone Destination A/T's, General Grabber AT2's, Goodyear Wrangler Silent Armor and Khumo Road Venture AT's.

I had always considered Generals to be cheap crap, especially the OEM versions. My '97 F250HD has a set of General Grabber AW's in P255/70R16. They were the factory tires on a 2001 F250LD delivery truck that my company bought new in 2001. After 60K miles, they still had about 1/4 tread left. My boss had new Coopers installed in 2003 and let me have the Generals for free, since it saved them the tire disposal fee. I took them home and put them in storage. Fast-forward to 2010.....I got tired of the harsh 10-ply tire ride on my F250HD, so I bought some 16X7 wagon spoke wheels and mounted the 10yr old "free-be" Generals. The ride is still smooth & quiet and they drive & handle like a dream. No signs of age cracking or chunking out after 10 years, and I've already put another 15K miles on them. And I still have enough tread left to last another year! I know General is not considered a quality brand, but these are the best light truck tire I've ever owned. It depresses me to think about replacing them next spring.

Yea Generals have stepped up their game with the new AT2's and other tires, I just picked up some Altimax RT's for my 2wd and I love em. You guys with deep pockets can keep overpaying for tires you buy, but for me, I'll save some dough AND buy from an American company at the same time.

I have factory generals on my 06' F-150. They have 45k on them and are about shot for tread (aceptable). However the side walls are weather cracked pretty bad on all 4 tires. I compair this to the BFG's on my 88' that are over 10 years old with no weather cracking.

I have noticed the exact same thing! My new-to-me F-350 came with 10-year-old BFGs, and the rubber still looks like brand new with no fading or cracking (I couldn't believe that they were that old but I carefully checked the DOT date codes on all of them).

Compared to numerous Toyo and other "name-brand" tires I have seen on family members' and friends' cars that are only two years old and already show significant cracking and fading.

The problem is, when you buy new tires, you have absolutely no idea if the chemical makeup of the rubber is correct (proper UV and ozone resistance additives, etc). My own opinion is that offshore tire plants are cutting corners on some of these additives, as 10-year-old American-made tires looking newer than 2-year-old foreign-made tires is just wrong (yes, I know that it depends on environmental conditions such as exposure to direct sun).

I will agree with the comment about aging.

I also like that my BFG ATs are made here.
