no heat
hey all,
my heater is not working. it doesnt get warm
but fan speed works. i just replaced oil cooler
and egr delete, but dont think its related.
also, i noticed that my ac was turning on/off
every 10 secs also...
i unplugged the wire clip from condenser and
it turned off, but the heater still dont work.
the air has a chemically smell, which i dont remember
ever smelling, but im pretty sure theres no core
leak cuz i would see it? right?
ohh fte forums...
thanks!

I know you have a 6.0 because you mentioned the coolers, but it would help if we knew what year.
Do you have a valve in your heater supply lines? Is it open? Do your heater supply lines get hot? Both hoses get hot?
The smell sounds like a leaking heater core. Usually you will get a lot of greasy vapor on your windshield. You may not see a leak inside the truck until it gets really bad. But as you know, a leaking core will not cause the heater to not work. Also, some smell after the cooler work is common, along with some oil/water exhaust discharge.
Your core could simply be plugged up, just like your oil cooler was plugged up before the repair. You find this by checking the temp of the hoses coming back out of the core.
Locked up blend doors can also cause this.
Low coolant can cause this. But I doubt this is the problem, because you've had the coolers worked on so you already know to watch the coolant level like a hawk, right?
On '03 and '04 trucks, the water pumps frequently fail internally.

got the truck hot.
the heater inlet hose is warm.
the return hose not as warm..
exposed heater core thru glovebox,
looks fine, vacuum doors are working.
i remember blowing thru the heater
hoses when i was into it last time..
crap, does it look like water pump
the whole time???
thats funny cuz its the 1st thing i started
suspecting before everything.
oil cooler was definitely on its way out
tho when i pulled it.....
well, time to forum search water pump!

Are you getting any white residue around degas bottle cap? When my 04 late build had a no heat problem I tried and checked everything you would normally do for a no heat problem. I finally found it was a very bad head gasket. Fixed that and no more no heat problem!! Also I did not loose much coolant probably because i was not pulling any heavy loads at the time. I figured the head gasket out by hooking up to a heavy trailer and driving and watching the coolant temp. with a AE scan gauge climb out of control rapidly.

wow, new one for me..
i pulled the small coolant hose from manifold
to reservoir, and there was a little flow @ idle...
thanks for that input cuz i woulda never guessed.
im definitely gonna give it the test and scanguage
or use my x3(if its possible) tomorrow.
also, theres no soot or white stuff anywhere.
I still dont get it..........

Well, I'm thinking your heater core is plugged up just like you oil was. What I do is disconnect both heater hoses at the heater core, slip a couple of short lengths of hose on the heater core nipples (so they act as stand pipes)and fill the core with CLR and let it sit for 45 minutes then flush it out with a water hose both ways. This procedure really works, I have been doing it for years.

The crew cabs were the only ones fitted with the vacuum heater valve. If you had one, it would be on the supply side (hose closest to fender I think, truck isn't close) between the oil fill stand pipe and the air box.

after driving it all day, i noticed more water
spewing from the overflow... and an infamous
white residue.
I had the water level below the min level for
the last couple of days, so am prety sure its
not too full.
so, is there an easy way to check for headache,
i mean headgasket leak?
also. i figured out how to datalog my tuner finally.
the actual h20 temp never got above 200...
really appreciate the help, nice to come here.
im gonna search forums right now, just thought
