choke **** removal

Just got in some interior parts I ordered from Dennis Carpenter.....very nice! Anyway......how do I remove the choke **** from the shaft?? The choke **** I got from Carpenter has I hex screw that you tighten, but the factory **** doesnt have this hex screw. I really dont want to mess anything up, so I thought I would as first.

Cut the puppy off.

Never did, because there is no such thing as a choke cable ****!
(sigh) This is what happens when peeps don't have the 1964/72 Ford Truck Parts Catalog. They buy parts that may be/may not be correct, and believe what DC (and etc) claim.

Look on page 43 in DC's '67/79 truck repro parts catalog, column left > > WIPER SWITCH-67/72 < < This is what you will see:

C8UZ-17513-A .. Wiper **** (Ford truck parts catalog apps: 1968/72 F100/750 / 1969/74 Econoline).

This is the **** DC is selling for what he claims is the choke cable ****. But, there is no such thing, as Ford only sold the **** with the cable!

Will it work? The only way you're gonna find out is to cut the old **** off (it was pressed on originally), then see if this **** will take its place.

If...you had the parts catalog, you coulda looked this part number up to see what its applications are. You wouldn'ta seen any mention of a choke cable ****, that's for damn sure!

Very true ND. About half the ***** on my early Bronco's are the same deal. I take a propane torch and heat the plastic **** till it pulls off. Then go back and remove the raised portion left on shaft with a Dremel grinding a small flat for the new set screw. But, I have more time than money.

I agree with you ND, no doubt, but buying that choke **** from DC is ALOT cheaper than buying a complete choke **** with cable assembly from Ford. Nothing wrong at all with my choke cable, then only thing I was concerned about was the chrome inside of the choke **** getting that "cracked" look so its got to go! I dont even use the choke cable its simply there for looks, lol.......I have an electric choke carb on mine now.
